Olivia’s journey…
Olivia had both her upper canine teeth erupting very much out of line – so much so that one of her baby teeth could not be pushed out naturally by her erupting adult canine. There was not enough space for the upper canines and there was also a mild imbalance in the bite of the teeth.
Olivia and her mother were keen to get her crowding and the appearance of her teeth corrected, but due to family circumstances, the cost of treatment was a considerable hurdle.
Dr Sheryn Deane at North Shore Orthodontics discussed the various treatment options with the family, and it was decided to commence Olivia’s orthodontic treatment with the loss of the retained baby canine and the placement of full upper and lower braces. This treatment would proceed without the removal of any premolar teeth using some arch expansion to provide the necessary space to align the teeth.
Through the Give a Smile program, treatment was completed as planned over approximately an 18-month period. Upper and lower fixed retainers were fitted when the braces were removed to maintain the alignment of Olivia’s teeth.
The family was delighted with the outcome and Olivia’s beautiful smile and the staff at North Shore Orthodontics were pleased to be a part of Olivia’s treatment. Through the Give a Smile program, the North Shore Orthodontics team were able to help the family achieve something they thought might be out of their reach.
I am incredibly grateful to the Give A Smile Program that gave me the opportunity to have orthodontic treatment which I needed, but my family was not able to pay for. Thank you.
